Joyaa Antares/Barbara Shaw Husserl Connections

Joyaa Aantares, whose magnificent www.zausmerforest.com website details some Husserls among its members, has generously permitted the use of this information on these pages. The Husserls on this page form part of his "forest", and stem from the un-named father of Wilhelm Husserl and his nameless brother. Thanks to Joyaa and family member Barbara Shaw (née Zausmer), we have a few basic details on which, hopefully, we can build in the future.

Map highlighting [A] Boskovice, [B] Cieszyn (Teschen) and [C] Prostejov -  three towns with confirmed Husserl connections.

From correspondence conducted by Barbara Shaw, it had been established that Wilhelm Husserl had a cousin named Clara Husserl. Frustratingly, there are no identifying names for their parents, whom I have tagged Un-named Ancestor Husserl+Unknown. Their daughter Clara is known to have married a Stephen Schmelz. There is as yet no further information on dates or places of birth for Clara and Stephen who had no children.

Wilhelm Husserl married an Emma Bruckmann, with whom he had a daughter, Rosa Husserl, who was born 1 October 1890 in Cieszyn [Teschen/Tešín], Bohemia. Her town of birth lies approximately 170 kilometres (105 miles) east of Boskovice, where my great-grandmother Betti [Blime/Blumele] Husserl may have been born, and 131kms (82 miles) east of Prostejov, home to Maud Beer's family of Husserls. The map above highlights the possibility of an inter-family connection.

Rosa Husserl married Richard Schwelb who, 11 years her senior, had been born in Rokytnice, Moravia on 25 June 1879.By an odd coincidence, Rokytnice is the same distance from Boskovice as it is from Cieszyn, lying 130kms  (75 miles) south-east of the former and south-west of the latter. The couple subsequently moved to Vienna, where their daughter, Eva Julie Wilhelmina Deborah Schwelb was born on 2 August 1924.

The family moved to England, initially settling in Stepney, where Eva married Abraham Zausmer in June 1952. The coincidence factor between Joyaa's family and my own is rather extraordinary: each stemming from Bohemia and Moravia, moving onto Vienna and then to Stepney in east London. Like my family, they then moved north-west to Maida Vale/Kilburn, where they lived just a few hundred yards from each other, and finally to Wembley, Middlesex where their home was three streets away from mine.

Rosa died in Kilburn on 8 December 1955, and Richard's death was registered in Marylebone on 30August 1963.Abraham Zausmer was living in Wembley when he passed away on 25 July 2002.
